Important days for Swedish whisky

Last Friday, the 16th of December, we did gather at Nasqaq OMX in Stockholm to officially be listed on First North. Our CEO Magnus rang the bell and Mackmyra is now on the stock market!

On Saturday did we open our new distillery : Mackmyra Gravitationsdestilleri (The Gravitation distillery) with a lot of brave visitors, struggling against cold winds and a lot of rain. Despite the weather it was a spectacular day! Our colleague, Lars Lindberger, was the bravest of them all, explaining every single floor of the 35 meter high distillery in a untraditional way, look at this movie (unfortunately only in Swedish).

It was great to see so many of our ambassadors there, wanting to participate on this important day!
A perfect start for the future of Swedish Whisky!

Cheers

Leaving New York for this time!

I have now been in New York and launched Mackmyra since April. It has been an amazing journey that just started. I will now go back to Sweden for Christmas but will soon be back to spread our whisky in the states. Thanks everyone for your support, we need your help.

The last event that I had was at the wonderful Swedish owned and run Hotel in East Hamptons called The Maidstone http://www.careofhotels.com/maidstone/. It was a huge success where over 100 people showed up to try the Mackmyra drinks, Swedish Mint Julep and the Swedish Storm.
I wish you Happy Holidays and will soon again keep you updated  with my work in New York and in the rest of the country.

Cheers
Jonathan

Christmas party at the Chamber of Commerce in Beijing

Yesterday was a evening in true Santa Claus spirit! The Chamber of Commerce arranged a Christmas party for 200 guests and Mackmyra was one of the gold sponsors for the event.
Ida and I spent the night mixing whisky drinks and offered The first edition directly from our 30-litre cask. It was a great evening and the guests seems to like us a lot! We made two drinks, the Mackirinha and a Christmas drink, special made for this evening, here is the recipe:

Dizzy Miss Lizzy
4cl of The first edition
2 cl of Mandarine Napoleon
2 cl of Sugar syrap made with cardamom and clove
2 cl of Cranberry juice
Crushed ice
Stir it and if you want to make it a little extra, tear some orange peel over it! Voila!
Big thanks to Johan Jansson who composed the drink!

Cheers!

The first whisky tasting for Mackmyra in Taipei

Tonight we had our very first whisky tasting in Taipei. We talked about the future of Mackmyra while about 30-40 guests had a taste of The First Edition and the Special:07 Hope. It is so exciting to see the genuine interest and curiousity that the Taiwanese people have in Mackmyra!

Mackmyra in the heart of Paris

November the 16th we introduced the concept “Living Cask” at the historic place Cercle Suédois in Paris. The Cercle Suédois is the oldest Swedish foreign club in the world, founded 1891.

All the Swedish history in the walls combined with the beautiful rooms and the lovely view from the balcony over the Tuileri garden, makes this a perfect meeting point for our Mackmyra enthusiasts in Paris!

Cercle Suédoise is located just a few minutes from Place de la Concorde and the Louvre. Here we are in good company, besides the fantastic and dedicated crew of Swedes that is taking care of the restaurant and the club, one of the first members in this club was Alfred Nobel. His desk, were he wrote his famous will, is still present in one of the lounges.

We want you to feel most welcome to Sercle Suédois and try the Gold Winning Mackmyra Reserve direct from the cask!

Mackmyra @South Africa part 3

Sunny morning with 31 degrees by the pool, then work then lunch. We had a wonderful South African lunch at SA restaurant LEKGOTLA with french whisky queen Martine Nouet, where we ate freshly smoked crocodile amongst other things- plus a local SA seafood platter- all really delicate. Now to some preparations and then get ready to rock'n roll again on the 2nd eve of Whisky Live Johannesburg.

What, is Mackmyra in South Africa? Yes, Mackmyra is visiting South Africa. For the first time!
Mackmyra's Master blender Angela and Sales manager Mikael Mossvall are visiting the country, and at the same time, participating in the hot, 9th in the row, whisky festival Whisky Live in Johanneburg.

Wednesday evening was this year's festival's first- and really crowded. Lots of vistors that had never heard of Swedish whisky, came and tasted in the small Mackmyra booth, where Mikael and Angela were pouring and telling about Mackmyra to everyone, as if their life depended on it. A very positive response and more possible new ambassadors regarding international casks, was the summing up of the evening. Day two, Thursday, have been promised to be even more crowded.

Safe & sound in South Africa! The trip went very well, I even managed to sleep on the plane, beleive it or not. The sun's shining and its 26 lovely degrees celsius outside. Really looking forward to tomorrow and the 1st day of WHISKY LIVE JOHANNESBURG. More from Mackmyra International tomorrow /Angela

Back in Sweden...

One and a half week later are we now back in Sweden, full of impressions, a lot of new contacts and friends and a good insight of how the consumer in Taipei and Shanghai feels about Swedish whisky.

Our interpretor Ou in Shanghai
The fair in Shanghai was smaller than Taipei and had a different type of consumers. The people in Taipei were very well educated in whisky. Shanghai had a lot of business people the first day (distributors, bar managers etc) and end consumer the other day.

Our stand in Shanghai, right before opening

In Taipei the majority loved and preferred the Special:06 - Summer Meadow, which has a lot of Sherry cask in it.

No:1 in Taipei
In Shanghai was it more mixed tastes and every edition was highly appreciated.

Our interpretor Mango in Taipei, busy explaining Mackmyra in Chinese

We ended the journey with a nice dinner with Mr. Robert Dykes, who works at the Swedish trade council and helped us with the first exploring of the Chinese market and been a great support since. After the dinner we went to meet with Christoffer Backman, Long Bar Manager at hotel Waldorf Astoria, who we met at the fair the day before. We had a very nice evening together, chit-chatting about spirits, tastes, Swedish food and the Chinese culture!

I think it will take a couple of days to sum up all of the impressions and sort out everything, but after that we hopefully feels that we have a better overall picture...

Cheers,
Sanna
