Mackmyra in Chinese whiskyblog

One of the evenings when we met with Fredrik Esbensen that is working for Vandergeeten (distributor of beer) we run in to J. Boyce, one of the biggest whisky- and nightclubs-bloggers in China.

We invited him to the event at the embassy and he seemed to enjoy our whisky;

We really appreciated that he took the time to visit us at the event!

The first international "Living Cask"

The day after the event at the embassy in Beijing we went to deliver the “Living cask” as a gift to Single Malt Club and it was a big moment for all of us. The living cask is filled with Mackmyra and you can pour it by yourself into your glass.

Raymond, one of the owners of Single Malt Club with the first international living cask

Maggie and Raymond who are the owners seemed to be very happy! It was also cool to see that the bottles we left at the tasting we had a month ago stood in the shelter, almost half empty.
Yaisin, Bar manager, standing besides the Mackmyra bottles with a Mackhirinhia

Both Maggie and Raymond attended the event at the embassy the night before and had tried the Mackirinha, and after a while when the cask was installed they asked us if we could teach them how to make the drink. They liked it so much that it even became their “Special”!

Here's the address if you are in Beijing  - More info about Single Malt Club

The recipe for Mackirinha;

6 cl Mackmyra
0,5 Lime in pieces
4 cl Sugar syrup
Crushed ice

- Mash the lime in the glass by crush it with a muddler

- Add crushed ice and sugar syrup, pour the Mackmyra over and stir.
- Add some more crushed ice if needed and garniture with a lime cleave.

Lots of joy

Many thanks to all that we had the pleasure to meet and of course a special thanks to the excellent team at the Swedish Trade Council (Dimitri for your passion, Fredrik for just being you).

A successful event at the Swedish Embassy in Beijing

Last night we participated at the Swedish national day celebration at the Swedish Embassy here in Beijing. The Embassy had organized an event full of activities; dance around the midsummer pole, Swedish food such as hot dogs and cinnamon buns and a cancelled Vasalopp (typical skiing race in Sweden). Our role was to provide whisky drinks for the guests throughout the night!

Earlier in the day we had with some help set up the Mackmyra bar, designed with a 30-litre cask, leather chairs and bottles of our First Edition whisky. As the first guests arrived we were very excited to serve our Mackirinhias and our whisky just as it is for those who wanted to have a taste.

One of our first tasters was J. Boyce, author of a blog about Beijing’s restaurants and nightlife, www.beijingboyce.com. We met him in a bar by coincidence the night before and we were glad to see him at the event and he seemed happy having a taste of Swedish whisky.

After half an hour suddenly the sky opened and everything got wet, including ourselves. But despite the heavy rain people kept wanting more Mackmyra drinks!

The night continued with a high demand for drinks and many questions about us. It was good to see so many curious and interested people. It was also nice to see some of those we had meetings with last time and that we had invited to this event. They were all congratulating us on the huge interest people showed for Mackmyra.

Our thoughts after the event is first of all that we are very honored to have had the opportunity to participate at this event. We are also very happy to meet so many people that show such interest and curiosity in our brand. We were pleased to see that almost everyone enjoyed and liked the whisky, either as a Mackirinhia or plain.

We are very happy with the event and we hope that we will get the chance to participate again next year.

Lots of joy,

Sanna and Ida

Meanwhile, in Paris...

Yesterday, as the sun set over our Beijing bar it also rose over Jonathan on his way to work in Manhattan. In between, we had the privilige of meeting Katarina with colleagues at the Chambre de Commerce Suédoise en France.

Meeting and cooperating with Swedish networks in of course a priority for us, and we look forward to future Mackmyra moments on the beautiful terrace overlooking Paris.

Au revoir,

Lisa & Rikard

Preparation for the Event in Beijing

The guests will soon arrive to the Embassy and we have been preparing all morning to set up a cosy Mackmyra corner!

The backdrop

Robert, who also used to work as a bartender, taught us how to do the perfect Mackirinhia. It's 37 degrees here so there will be a lot of fresh, cold Mackirhinias to serve we think.

Bartender skills

and of course, a sip!

All the best,
Sanna

TV interview and Tasting at Brandy Library in NYC!

Yesterday I went to Tribeca in Manhattan for a TV interview and open tasting at the probably best whisky bar in NY – Brandy Library. If you are a whisky lover or prefer any other brown spirit you have to visit the place. And from now on you can order Swedish Whisky in the bar.
